Four Things You Need To Do To Properly Maintain Your Kitchen Sink

Veronica Torres

You can avoid sink repairs and keep your kitchen looking great by putting effort into proper sink maintenance. Kitchen sinks take a beating because they're used to accomplish just about every cooking task. You even need to rely on your kitchen sink when you're cleaning other areas of your home to do things like mix cleaning solutions.

You can keep your sink in good condition both functionally and aesthetically by taking care of all of the following four maintenance tasks on a regular basis:

Regularly scrub away residue

Your kitchen sink is going to get dirty over time. This is especially true if you have a garbage disposal and you're putting a lot of food waste down the drain.

It's a good idea to scrub down your kitchen sink with a dishrag and a bit of dishwashing detergent at the end of each day.

Use baking soda and/or lemon juice to get rid of any stains

If you get stains on the surface of your kitchen sink, you should be able to remove them with baking soda, lemon juice, or a mixture of both. Baking soda is great to use on your kitchen sink because it helps get rid of odors, and lemon juice can cut through oil residue and help to dissolve stuck-on food particles.

Get rid of mineral deposits with vinegar

If you've got hard water, mineral deposits might build up on your kitchen sink surface over time. These mineral deposits aren't just a cosmetic issue, but could lead to rust development over time if you don't regularly remove them.

Vinegar is a good natural substance to use to help get rid of white spots caused by mineral deposits. If you simply take a paper towel that's soaked in vinegar and leave the towel on top of the mineral deposit for a little while, you should be able to wipe the mineral deposit away easily afterwards.

Regularly put a gentle and natural drain cleaning mixture down your drain to avoid clogs

Chemical drain cleaners can be hard on your pipes and could cause plumbing problems if you use them all the time. However, your drains could become susceptible to clogs over time if you don't occasionally give them a good cleaning.

Fortunately, it's easy to mix up a gentle and natural drain cleaner at home using baking soda, salt, cream of tartar, and water. Put this mixture down your drain every once in a while and you'll probably notice that you rarely have trouble with clogs.
